By protecting and improving our environment, the communities where we do business and the students we serve, Sodexo makes every day a better day and every tomorrow a better tomorrow.

Sustainability Initiatives

Sodexo @ Westmont College has teamed with many local companies and distributors in hopes of getting greener products as well as helping those locally.

Fresh Point

Westmont Dining is proud to source our produce from Fresh Point. Fresh Point has a full list of produce offerings from local farmers, and our chefs source locally whenever possible.

Jordanos

A locally family owned distribution company has became one of our main suppliers for our food service needs. By ordering from a local company we are reducing the carbon footprint of truck travel. In addition Jordano’s has been able to supply us with re-usable mugs, which has allowed us to eliminate the paper cups that were previously used in the dining commons.

Ecolab

While a national company Ecolab has continued to grow in its efforts of sustainability.  All the products currently used  in dishwashing are environmentally friendly. More information on Ecolab’s sustainability efforts can be found at: http://www.ecolab.com/Publications/SustainabilityReport/default.asp

Farm Fresh Friday

Farm Fresh FridayA program started in the spring of 2012, Farm Fresh Friday is a weekly lunch special that features local and sustainable produce. At the beginning of each week, our chefs design recipes that incorporate seasonal produce from area farms or the Westmont Garden. In addition to local, organic produce, we strive to introduce exotic fruits and vegetables to students in order to raise culinary awareness. For instance, specials have included mission figs, heirloom tomatoes, purple kohlrabi, and lacinato kale, among others. We hope you can join us for our next Farm Fresh Friday!

Westmont Dining Garden Program

Created by Westmont College Dining Services by Sodexo in the Fall of 2011, the Westmont Dining Garden Project (WDGP) provides the following:

  • An interactive, hands-on opportunity on a 3/4 acre growing area, where the campus community learns about nutrition, caring for the environment, local food and soil stewardship.
  • Education and training on sustainable agricultural practices, native flora and medicinal plants.
  • All produce harvested from the Westmont Gardens goes directly to the Dining Commons, to be integrated into farm fresh dishes.
